Normal Only Better

Life has been...well, normal. I find myself reading the business section of the paper without wandering over to the financial section to see if I can afford a wedding...I find myself sleeping through an entire night without a SINGLE dream about flowers, cake or weather. I find myself sitting blankly in front of my computer with no urgent emails or decisions to make (I make all those during the day.) We have even had a weekend without some lame appointment that was sure to send me into a tiz. WE SAW A MOVIE (Shrek) and I don't think that has happened in almost a year! Our house is clean and back to normal. In case your wondering..this is the normal brain scan of a normal woman..and once again...gratefully, that is me.

Another side note of perks of normal life is that I am enjoying things I enjoyed before (cooking) and now things that I haven't enjoyed in 15 years: riding a bike (which we got for our wedding!!) with my new husband. I have blogged TWICE this week!! I might continue to grow my hair out for the enjoyment of it - rather that the deadline of a long-haired wedding...ditto for the gym. Its SO much more fun to go to the gym without looking in every mirror and imagining that the most awful part of it will be magnified in white.

I also find that all this normalcy is even better than normal before. Yes, its true, that its because the honeymoon period is possibly the best thing I have ever experienced. All my favorite things are better -- in no small part that Jeff is here and we're doing lots of it together. When I watch movies where people are getting married...my mind wanders over the to the most perfect day of my life. When I look (AGAIN) at the pictures, I see myself laughing and smiling throughout the entire day...and I realize that I am so glad we did it that way. We had a day of love and happiness, and that is what a wedding should be. We were surrounded by people who were happy for us - who wanted to be part of our joy. We were celebrating our love. And every day seems like a small celebration of love.

OK - so the honeymoon period isn't "normal" but it sure IS great.

Top 10 AWESOME things about Fiji

I know - its late. I am a bad blogger, bad, bad blogger!

Here are the top 10 things about our trip to Fiji:

10) Flying over this awesome promise of a beautiful beach and a beautiful vacation

9) Actually landing and getting OUT of this tiny plane, which landed on a grass airstrip
(for GOD's SAKE).

There is a "PS" to the plane ride...THIS was the road to the resort. THIS is when I looked at my new husband, with fear and terror and said "we have been HAD!!" Wholly cow..I was pretty terrified...what you CAN'T see is the potholes that we swerved and hit, depending on driver's accuracy, that were practically 3 feet deep.

8) The Fijian Welcome however, made up for the road...and their genuine warmth is felt throughout our entire stay: "BULA" (Hello) is said warmly and everytime you see someone - and they always say it with the enthusiasm of an old friend who doesn't get to see enough of you!

Everywhere you go - there are flowers..including the path to your BURE (aka private beach bungalow)...

Which brings us to number 7 on our count down:
7) Our room...our beautiful room, and our private beach:

There is a "PS" to our room..we loved it, and so did the island roosters. Yah. As in plural. And guess what MULTIPLE roosters do when they are together? "Cock-a-doodle DOOOOOOO" at any damn time they feel. So weird.

6)
Champagne everywhere, anywhere. And you get to do it in your swimsuit...or birthday suit or any other outfit..or anyplace..including your private lunch, on your private island (Nookie Nookie - I SWEAR that is what its called).

5) Diving
Unfortunately, we don't have many pictures of this, but we dived for 5 days - twice each day. Our final dive was a night dive!! We both agreed - its awesome! We saw Sea Turtles, Moray Eels, Sharks, Rays, Lion Fish, Barracuda, Octopus...and beautiful fish and coral!! This is us on the way to the dive - and on the way back from our night dive - I am WILD eyed and SO excited that we did it! Diving is amazing - its exhilarating and yet, so peaceful . Our dive instructor, Vuli was great at pointing everything out!! Everywhere you look, it feels like a National Geographic special...and then you hear your breath..and realize you are THERE..and this entire world is unwrapping around you.

4) The Number Four thing about our trip - was the other people there. The resort (Vatulele) is super small - it only has room for 15 couples or so - but during our time there, I don't think there was ever more than 6 couples. Most of the people were from Australia, or New Zealand, there was a German couple and some other Americans. The company was always
awesome!! Everyone there was either celebrating an anniversary or a honeymoon...

3) Activities...or not! we did cave walks...and we went sea kayaking (in addition to SCUBA) we also visited the village and went to church there and visited the villagers. But after a hard day of vacation - we always found time for reading (AKA: a NAP!)

2) The wildlife and nature! The jungle is totally amazing, though I have to say that it DOES take some getting used to: the moths are JURASSIC they are so huge, there were geckos everywhere, including in my shower, which I soon learned to appreciate as he scared away the bugs...of which Fiji has no shortage. The land crabs were making their annual pilgrimage to the ocean to lay their eggs..so there we couldn't take a step without seeing them. One crawled across my foot at dinner one night-oooooooh YAH he went for a ride! During our stay they completed their journeys and we soon missed hearing them rustle around in the jungle or cross our paths on the beach at night. The coconuts were not so ruthless, but GEEZ they make alot of noise when they land. We also saw blue footed boobies!! (NO - not me!!) They are like seagulls...WITH BLUE feet - and totally curious.

1) The best thing about Fiji is that we went!

The "PS" here is that the worst thing about visiting Fiji is that we had to come home. This is our "good bye" ceremony. I cried.
